If a Pokémon is defeated in battle it may not be used for the rest of the game.
Losing a battle is game over.
Only the first wild Pokémon encountered in an area may be captured and used.
Gift clause: Gift Pokémon do not count as an encounter.
Dupes clause: If an encounter is a Pokémon of a species that was already captured, it does not count.
Intentionally abusing 3.2 to control what mons you get is cheesy and therefore impermissible as a vegan.
Girl’s Club: ♂️ Pokémon don’t count either. (It is permissible to soft reset for a ♀️ gift/static Pokémon.)
Shinies can always be caught and used.
Wild Pokémon encountered before it is possible to catch any Pokémon do not count as your first encounter in an area.
The Starter Pokémon must be chosen randomly based on the last digit of the Trainer ID: 1-3 = leftmost, 4-6 = center, 7-9 = rightmost, 0 = free choice.
(Generationlocke:) The surviving members of each Hall of Fame team are bred to create eggs. These eggs are transferred to the next game and hatched in that game.
The champion Pokémon may optionally have moves deleted first (to avoid silliness like starting the game with Surf), but may not be taught new moves that will be passed down to the baby Pokémon.
When applicable, Incense may be used or not used at the player's preference.
The legacy Pokémon do not have to be used, but can be.
Level caps:
Pokémon that exceed the level of the next Gym Leader's ace Pokémon as of the start of the battle cannot be used in trainer battles.
The Elite Four may not be entered with Pokémon whose level exceeds that of the final Elite Four member's ace.
It is permissible to use Rare Candies before battling the Champion as long as no Pokémon exceed the level of the Champion's ace.
Set Mode must be used.
I venture into the Ice Path, where I catch a Swinub. After that, a few ice and boulder puzzles and I'm through to Blackthorn City! I catch a Donphan on Route 45 and settle in for some grinding. With my team at level 40, I take on Clair. Alligator can't quite one-shot her Dragonairs with Ice Punch, so I bring out Glutton II, who polishes them off, and with a little more effort, her Kingdra. But she's a sore loser and demands I take on some "dragon user challenge" before she'll give me my badge. The Dragon's Den isn't hard to deal with anyway.
I have to stop by New Bark Town to get to the Pokémon League anyway, so I stop by Professor Elm's lab and he gives me a Master Ball. On Route 26, I catch a Doduo and name it Emu. I reach the entrance to Victory Road. And then I travel back to Johto for some final preparations. Mostly, a lot of slots to get a couple of Thunder TMs.
I think I want Return for Glutton II, but unfortunately I can't get it until Sunday, so this will probably be the last update on my run until then! Victory Road and the Pokémon League on Sunday, then!
