PKMN Yellow Nuzlocke ch. 5
rules for my Yellow Nuzlocke
- All Pokémon must be nicknamed.
- If a Pokémon is defeated in battle it may not be used for the rest of the game.
- Losing a battle is game over.
- Only the first wild Pokémon encountered in an area may be captured and used.
- Gift clause: Gift Pokémon do not count as an encounter.
- Dupes clause: If an encounter is a Pokémon of a species that was already captured, it does not count.
- Intentionally abusing 3.2 to control what mons you get is cheesy and therefore impermissible as a vegan.
Girl’s Club: ♂️ Pokémon don’t count either.(this rule is omitted because only two Pokémon have planetary alignments in Yellow.- Shinies can always be caught and used.
- Wild Pokémon encountered before it is possible to catch any Pokémon do not count as your first encounter in an area.
- Pokémon that exceed the level of the next Gym Leader's ace Pokémon as of the start of the battle cannot be used in trainer battles.
- The Elite Four may not be entered with Pokémon whose level exceeds that of the final Elite Four member's ace.
- It is permissible to use Rare Candies before battling the Champion as long as no Pokémon exceed the level of the Champion's ace.
I think I may replace Frog in my team with Glutton. Frog just doesn't have a great match-up against anything beside Blue's Sandslash and Giovanni's Dugtrio for the rest of the game, and Glutton can bring some great bulk and Amnesia + TMed coverage moves and deal with multiple Elite Four members by herself.
I headed for the Cycling Road to head toward Fuchsia City. I caught a Ponyta that I named Horse on the Route 17 part. I battled a bunch of bikers and made it to Fuchsia City. Somebody gave me a Good Rod. I fished up a Goldeen that I called Goldfish. Back on Route 18 I met a Doduo, but I hit it a bit too hard and it fainted. I headed east from Fuchsia for some more experience. On Route 15, I saw an Oddish, but unfortunately I got a critical and it fainted. Embarrassingly, this exact thing happened again on Route 14. I got a Super Rod on Route 12. I visited Vermillion City again and fished up a Poliwag named Tadpole.
Anyway, now to settle in for the slow process of leveling up enough to take on Koga and Sabrina. The jump in levels between Erika (levels 30, 32, 32) and Koga (42, 46, 48, 50)/Sabrina (50×3) is pretty huge. There is a lot of stuff to do outside of gym battles between them (foiling Team Rocket twice, several routes worth of trainer battles), but even all of that stuff will maybe get your team to the low 40s if you're training a full six Pokémon, so there's some grinding to be done if you want to face the next gyms without a level disadvantage.
After training Magician to level 50 and the others to level 49 (just in case), I took on Koga. Magician took care of him. Now for a little bit of final training before Sabrina. Sabrina was a bit tougher for Carp; her Alakazam did some damage.
