PKMN Yellow Nuzlocke ch. 4

rules for my Yellow Nuzlocke
  1. All Pokémon must be nicknamed.
  2. If a Pokémon is defeated in battle it may not be used for the rest of the game.
    1. Losing a battle is game over.
  3. Only the first wild Pokémon encountered in an area may be captured and used.
    1. Gift clause: Gift Pokémon do not count as an encounter.
    2. Dupes clause: If an encounter is a Pokémon of a species that was already captured, it does not count.
    3. Intentionally abusing 3.2 to control what mons you get is cheesy and therefore impermissible as a vegan.
    4. Girl’s Club: ♂️ Pokémon don’t count either. (this rule is omitted because only two Pokémon have planetary alignments in Yellow.
    5. Shinies can always be caught and used.
    6. Wild Pokémon encountered before it is possible to catch any Pokémon do not count as your first encounter in an area.
  4. Level caps:
    1. Pokémon that exceed the level of the next Gym Leader's ace Pokémon as of the start of the battle cannot be used in trainer battles.
    2. The Elite Four may not be entered with Pokémon whose level exceeds that of the final Elite Four member's ace.
    3. It is permissible to use Rare Candies before battling the Champion as long as no Pokémon exceed the level of the Champion's ace.
  5. Set Mode must be used.

With the Lightning American out of the way, I've got the Thunderbolt TM, which is exciting, but I'll save it for when I really need it. I think I will go ahead and teach Carp Bubble Beam, though. Sure, eventually I'll teach them Surf, but in the meantime they won't get a Water-type move until level 41. I headed up to Cerulean to head east, and caught a Nidoran♂ named King on Route 9. I won't use them for now, but may reconsider later on when I can teach it Earthquake. I saw a Geodude in the Rock Tunnel, but Magician kinda took it out too fast, oops. I moved on to Celadon City via the Underground Path. I caught a Jigglypuff on Route 7 and named her Balloon. In Celadon, I found an Eevee that I named Aguara.

Erika was a bit of a challenge (not least because I accidentally led with Magician, who couldn't easily deal with her Tangela), but we defeated her with no losses. Dinosaur did drop to around 2 HP, though. Afterwards, I snuck into some kind of secret Team Rocket base underneath the Game Corner and battled Giovanni, their leader. He gave me the Silph Scope. Now I can probably go to the Pokémon Tower properly.

I visited the Pokémon Tower, and Blue insisted on battling me there. He's starting to diversify his team a bit, with a Shellder and a Vulpix, but he's not training enough; my Pokémon are all higher level than his. I caught a Gastly here that I named Ghost. Near the top I defeated a Marowak ghost and calmed it down to allow it to move on. On the top floor, I beat those two Team Rocket members again, and rescued Mr. Fuji, except apparently he didn't need rescuing and was just there to help calm the Marowak. He gave me the Poké Flute anyway, though.

At this point I decided to start a Blue save (with randomly selected Charmander, also named Dinosaur) in order to double-trade Magician to evolve them. Thank you, endrift, for making this possible! After that I visited Saffron City, where a psychic gave me the TM for Psychic. As usual I'm saving it for later. I think Magician will learn it on her own and I might want to teach it to somebody else too. None of the rest of my current team can actually learn it, but I might change my mind about who to use eventually. I also took on the Fighting Dojo and earned a Hitmonlee, whom I named Bruce.

Team Rocket took over Silph Co.! There sure are a lot of Team Rocket members here. Frog evolved into Venusaur! I didn't quite feel ready to take on the boss again, so I went and did some more leveling of my Pokémon elsewhere. Dinosaur also evolved into Charizard and I taught her Fly. Then I went and took on Blue (who I guess was hanging around there waiting because he wanted to battle me, the weirdo). His Pokémon are a lot stronger now, but I defeated him, and then those two Team Rocket members who keep showing up, and then Giovanni again. The head of Silph Co. gave me a Master Ball as a reward for saving them.

After that I went west of Celadon City and woke up a Snorlax with the Poké Flute and caught it. I named it Glutton. I might add it to my team, although I'm not sure what to substitute it in for.
